What is Wicrypt?

Wicrypt is a decentralized WiFi  internet sharing and monetization network that allows anyone to get paid for sharing their WiFi. Wicrypt is the first African company to build a peer-to-peer infrastructure for sharing mobile internet data without need for third-party integration.

Wicrypt has an international team with experience working for some of Africa’s largest employers, including KPMG, Chevron, Accenture, Nielsen, and MTN Group, and is headquartered in Enugu, Nigeria.

The team started working on Wicrypt in 2018. They launched the latest version of their hardware (the Lynx and Spider) last year and have over 1100 live devices in the network across 30 countries and 91 cities globally.

Wicrypt is licensed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)—one of the 2019 NCC Tech Innovator winners, with a $15,000 grant. They have raised $1,500,000 in financing from AU21 Capital Investors and eight others and won a $150,000 grant at the LEAP23 event in Saudi Arabia, beating 90 other contestants. They aim to decentralise the internet and ensure affordable internet access for people worldwide.

Wicrypt's tech stack includes the following:

• The Hardware (The Lynx, The Spider): An internet WiFi-enabled device that can share WiFi.
• The Firmware (WicryptOS): A proprietary operating system licensed and used by WiFi-enabled hardware.
• The Software (Web/Mobile Applications): A software that manages hardware set-up and connection settings.

A Wicrypt-enabled hardware node serves as a micro-ISP base station. The hardware owner can set any billing rate and charge users that connect to their hotspot to access the internet. It also serves as a cryptocurrency miner that mines the Wicrypt Network Token ($WNT) at a rate determined by Wicrypt Reward Model System.

• The Wicrypt Network Token is an ERC20 cryptocurrency traded in exchanges, and it powers the Wicrypt ecosystem.

How to add $WNT to your ioPay wallet?

Step 1) Log into your ioPay wallet and change the network from IoTeX to Polygon in the top left of the screen.

Step 2) Press the + button to the right of "Token" to see the list of supported tokens you can add

Step 3) If you don’t see it immediately in the pre-populated list of tokens, search “WNT”

Step 4) Click the small + button on the far right of the “WNT” token row. Once the + changes to a checkmark, press the back arrow in the top left of the screen. You will now see $WNT appear in your ioPay wallet!
